The Victory Home:
War Bonds
The
country was just coming out of the Great Depression when it entered
WWII. As inspiring as the war effort was, it cost vast amounts of money to
make it go and keep it going. Bond-buying (loaning money to the government)
was portrayed as a patriotic duty. Advertising and celebrity-hosted bond
drives were used to promote bond sales. Bonds were also seen as a safe place
to park “surplus” money and control inflation.
